Mō te tūnga | About the role

There is no better time to join Oranga Tamariki, we are shifting the way we work as an organisation to ensure that tamariki and whānau are at the centre of all we do.

Our mahi will be focused on how we deliver the very best outcomes for tamariki, whanau and partners. As our Chief Legal Officer, you will lead our regionally based litigation services and a Wellington based legal advisory team that supports our Minister, Chief Executive and Leadership Team.

In this role you will work closely with our executive leadership and operational teams and be responsible for developing and leading our legal strategy. You will provide strategic legal advice and options for risk mitigation relating to matters that may impact the provision of services for at risk children.

Our legal services play a critical role in ensuring that we improve outcomes for tamariki, this is your opportunity to really make a difference in the lives of young New Zealander's.

 

Ngā pūmanawatanga ōu | What you will bring

  • Senior leader with a Bachelor of Laws and a current practising certificate
  • Proven ability to lead, inspire and drive meaningful change within an organisation
  • Extensive litigation experience - family law court experience would be advantageous
  • You will be a resilient and engaging leader with an for eye for continuous improvement
  • Ability to develop collaborative and effective relationships with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Advanced negotiation skills and the ability to achieve results through diplomacy
  • Significant experience leading a legal function preferably within the Public Sector
  • Demonstrated understanding and commitment to treaty principals and how to apply them for meaningful outcomes for Māori
