About the role
Based in their modern well-equipped Auckland Head Office the GM Legal & Company Secretary will report to the CFO and will have significant interaction with the Executive Team and Board.
In this role you will take ownership and lead the NZME Legal Team, act as Company Secretary for the NZX and ASX listed company, hold the position of Privacy Officer for the NZME Group and support the business to deliver results aligned with NZME’s strategic priorities. As the leader of the legal team, you will manage the provision of legal advice, litigation, complaints and compliance across the NZME Group.
You will develop and mentor your team to empower them to deliver results aligned with business strategy, and also provide training and coaching to people leaders and teams as appropriate to raise awareness of legal issues and obligations.

What we’re looking for
- A lawyer with at least 10+ years’ top quality post-admission experience who holds or is entitled to hold a current NZ legal practising certificate – inhouse experience is essential
- Experience in corporate governance, mergers & acquisitions, commercial contract negotiation, advisory, and company secretariat is essential
- Commercial nous and strategic focus, with excellent legal drafting skills
- Strong relationship building and influencing skills, high integrity, solutions focused and adaptable
