About the team

Transpower's Corporate Governance team supports and enables Transpower's strategic priorities though the provision of legal, governance, and regulatory services and advice, including oversight, delivery, and management of all legal advice and administration of the Transpower board, board committees, and Transpower's subsidiaries.

 

About the opportunity

Transpower is a natural monopoly impacting the lives of all New Zealanders, so you'll work with a strategic lens to help enable New Zealand's energy future. You'll gain deep understanding of our regulators (the Electricity Authority and Commerce Commission) and other interested stakeholders.

You will play a key role in supporting the General Counsel and Company Secretary, the board, and it's committees by providing secretarial services and governance advice, as well as contributing to legal advice when required.

Working closely with our General Management team, you will assist them in planning, preparing, and reviewing papers for board and board committee meetings to ensure they meet Transpower's governance requirements.

You'll work collaboratively with Corporate Counsels and Senior Managers across Transpower, including providing internal training, education, and feedback for senior managers on governance-related matters.

You will be the people leader for our small team of hard-working executive administration staff who support the General Management team and board and assist the Legal team as required.

 

What will you bring?

We are looking for someone with both IQ and EQ who would love to own an intellectually stimulating role as part of a successful and collaborative team. Your ability to exercise discretion and good independent judgment, as well as your responsiveness and flexible approach, will ensure success in this dynamic role where no two days are the same!

Along with the experience, credibility, and confidence to build relationships at all levels, your CV and cover letter will demonstrate the following:

  • Experience in a senior role providing governance input and advice, legal advice and/or supporting senior leaders in their work with board's and executive management
  • An LLB or other relevant tertiary qualification and experience in reviewing, and where necessary revising, governance documents, including key executive and board documents
  • Previous experience operating as a trusted advisor, applying the highest standards to critical and sensitive information
  • You hold, or are eligible for, a practising certificate issued by the New Zealand Law Society
  • Leadership and management experience of a diverse group of employees
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, and influencing ability
