Legal Adviser Commercial (Senior or Principal)
The GCSB Legal Team is seeking a high-performing commercial lawyer to provide reliable legal advice whilst navigating commercial situations that are complex and unique.
We can't reveal all the details of what you'll get to work on, but it will be challenging and cover a wide range of commercial matters and projects, including those of the utmost sensitivity. Ultimately, you'll work with a purpose at the heart of national security, protecting Aotearoa New Zealand and New Zealanders.
We're looking for someone, at either the senior or principal level, who can provide high-quality legal advice, is commercially astute and comfortable providing advice at all levels of an organisation including senior leadership team members. At the senior level you will have at least 8 years' post-qualification experience and at the principal level you will have at least 10 years post-qualification experience.
With strong experience in commercial law, you'll be able to accurately and concisely apply commercial legal concepts to our unique work, demonstrating a principled and practical attitude to your work. As well as your knowledge and a commitment to the Crown's te Tiriti o Waitangi partnership, you'll be mindful of its impact on GCSB's work and keep up with developments recognising tikanga and te Ao Maori in the law. As a trusted adviser you'll be discreet and reliable, identifying and offering solutions to complex legal problems.

Salary
Band I $115,729 (90%) - $147,876 (115%) , Band J $136,628 (90%) - $174,580 (115%)
Midpoint of the salary range (100%) reflects full competence in the role.

To be eligible for employment within the NZIC you must have been a NZ citizen for at least 10 years. Alternatively you must hold a current NZ Residency Class Visa and ideally have been a citizen of UK, USA, Canada or Australia for at least 10 years.
You must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Special (TSS) security clearance. Ordinarily to obtain this level of clearance candidates must have a 15 year checkable background in countries where meaningful and reliable checks can be undertaken. Where requisite checks are unable to be made, the candidate application may not be able to be progressed.
